Google Business Profile FAQs

Why do I need a Google Business Profile?

A Google Business Profile helps your business appear in local search results and on Google Maps. It makes it easier for potential customers to find you, read reviews, and contact you. Your Google Business Profile is what shows up in the local 3-pack. These are the top 3 local businesses that show up at the top of the Google search results page after someone searches for your business category or the services that you offer.

Brand New Profiles

If we’re creating you a brand new Google Business Profile, it usually starts showing up in search results within 72 hours after we verify your profile.

At first, your profile will only show up when someone searches for your business name. It takes some time before your profile will show up when people are searching for the services you offer.

When someone runs a search, Google wants to return the most relevant businesses that are qualified, reputable and trustworthy. Once your profile is optimized, gradually growing your reviews, adding photos of your work, and managing your profile all help to earn trust from Google.

Usually, you need at least 10 reviews on your profile before you start showing up when people are searching for businesses like yours. After you get to 10 reviews, you will start showing up in search results. How high you rank depends on your local market, your competition, and your overall online presence.

Existing Profiles

If you have an existing Google Business Profile, after we optimize your listing your rankings improve within 30 days when people search for the services you offer. How high you rank depends on your competition, the age of your profile, the number of reviews you have, and your overall online presence.

Your business location vs. the location someone is searching from heavily impacts how high you rank. When someone runs a search in the vicinity closest to your business location, you’re more likely to show up. At first, your rankings will improve when people search from locations in your city.

As your online reputation improves with time, and we implement different SEO strategies, you’ll see your rankings improve farther away from your location.

You do need a street address to create your Google Business Profile. However, your street address does not have to be visible to the public.

If you only interact with customers at their location, Google considers you to be a service area business and your address will be hidden. Google will know generally where you are located, so that you can show up in search results when potential customers are searching near your business location.

In our experience, it is helpful to have a street address on your profile. Google has very specific rules about who can show a street address on your profile. Your Local Marketing Specialist will help you figure out if you qualify to show your address on your profile.

The more reviews that you have on your profile, the more credible your business will be – to both Google & potential customers. While there is no specific number of reviews that you need, in our experience there are a few important milestones that signficiantly hep you improve your rankings.

Milestone #1: 10 reviews

Milestone #2: 30 reviews

Milestone #3: 100 reviews

It’s also important that you are continuing to get more reviews each month, even after reaching these milestones.

Reviews are one of the most powerful ranking and trust-building factors for your Google Business Profile. Here’s why:

  • Google Uses Reviews to Understand Your Business – Google scans the written text of reviews to identify keywords related to your services. If your customers mention specific services (e.g., “roof repair,” “kitchen remodel,” or “emergency plumbing”), Google associates your profile with those services, increasing the chances of appearing in relevant search results.

  • Reviews Impact Rankings – The frequency of reviews, overall star rating, and total number of reviews all influence your placement in local search results. Businesses with a steady stream of positive reviews rank higher than those with outdated or few reviews.

  • Credibility & Customer Confidence – Before hiring you, especially for high-cost services like home remodeling or legal work, potential customers need to see proof that you consistently deliver great results. Reviews provide that social proof, making people more comfortable choosing your business over competitors.

  • Competitive Edge – If a customer is comparing businesses and sees yours with 100+ glowing reviews while a competitor has only a handful, they’re far more likely to trust and contact you first.

Consistently gathering and responding to reviews not only improves your visibility on Google but also builds the trust necessary to win more customers.

We recommend adding new photos to your profile once a week. At minimum, you should try to add high-quality photos of your finished projects at least once per month. If your business doesn’t have enough photos to add each month, we recommend adding new photos as often as possible.

It’s important that the photos you post to your Google Business Profile help Google and potential customers learn what it’s like to work with your business. The most important type of photos to share are of your finished work.

You don’t need professional photos, but your photos need to be high-quality with good lighting. Here are a few types of photos we recommend posting:

The more active your Google Business Profile is, the better. Ideally, you’ll update your profile each week with new photos & videos, an update post, and responses to new reviews. It’s also important that you keep your business details up to date and update your hours anytime your business is closed for holidays, vacations, or bad weather.

At minimum, you should update your profile once a month to show Google and potential customers that you’re active and engaging with your potential customers.

Search Engine Optimization includes things you need to do on each page of your website, and behind the scenes to show up in online search results. Really, SEO is just Customer Experience Optimization. As Google’s search engine improves with time, outdated hacks to get your website to show up on page 1 of search results don’t work.

Google wants you to focus on providing good, complete information and a fantastic customer experience. It’s the same thing your customers want. For each page on your website, we’ll follow SEO best practices.

Google Analytics is a free tool that helps you understand how people find and use your website. It shows how many visitors come to the site, where they come from (like Google searches or social media), and what pages they look at. This helps business owners see what’s working and what’s not. By tracking this information, businesses can make smarter decisions to get more customers and grow.

Core WordPress Website FAQs

What is a Core WordPress Website?

Every local business needs a website that reflects the quality of their work and makes it easy for customers to connect with them. Our Core WordPress Website is the foundation for long-term online growth—designed for both SEO and usability.

What Makes the Core WordPress Website Essential?

Custom Design – A professional, user-friendly layout tailored to your brand.
SEO-Optimized – Built to rank on Google and help potential customers find you.
Fast & Mobile-Friendly – Ensures a seamless experience across all devices.
Scalable Foundation – Start with the essentials and expand as your business grows.

What’s Included?

The Core WordPress Website includes the essential pages every business needs:

  • Home – Showcases your business, services, and value.
  • About – Builds trust by sharing your story and expertise.
  • Contact – Makes it easy for customers to reach you.
  • Testimonials – Highlights real customer experiences to boost credibility.
  • Photos – Showcases your work to engage potential customers.
  • Privacy Policy – Ensures transparency and compliance.

Once your foundation is set, you can easily add additional pages for specific services, locations, or other important content as your business grows.

After we have your 1 hour onboarding call to strategize your messaging, it typically takes 4 weeks to build & launch your website.

Here’s a few reasons why it might take longer:

Review & Edits: We’ll send you the written content & a design mockup for approval before we start building each page. The 4 week timeline is based on you providing us edits & comments within 24 hours. We know as a small business owner, sometimes you get busy and can’t respond that quickly. If there are some delays, that will push back the 4 week timeline.

Additional Website Pages: The Core WordPress website includes the most essential website pages. However, many local businesses can benefit from adding other pages. If we add additional pages to your website, it might make sense to finish all of the pages before launching your site.

When we’re done with your website, it will start to appear in Google search results when people are searching for businesses in your category.

How high you rank in search results depends on several factors including your local market, your competitors, your reviews, and your overall online presence.

Some businesses might begin getting clicks from Google with just your Core WordPress website. Most businesses need to add additional Service Pages to your website, dedicated to each individual service that you want to promote online.

Our Local SEO Monthly plans will help you manage and grow your reputation online to give you the best chance of ranking on page 1 of search results.

The Core WordPress Website service does not include unlimited edits. The goal of this service is to build you a high quality, custom website at an affordable price.

When we create your custom website design, you get 3 custom mockups to choose from. After you pick your favorite, we’ll create the design of your full homepage in a PDF before your website is built.

Once we have the complete design, we’ll send to you for 1 round additional round of edits. At that point, our designers will make any changes that you request, then send you a mockup for final approval.

After two rounds of edits to your design, additional edits will be billed at $89/hour.

Once you approve the final design mockup, we’ll start building your website to look exactly like it does in your mockup.  If you require design updates after your website is already built, these will also be billed at the rate of $89/hour.

Here’s how we create your custom website design for your Core WordPress website:

  1. You send us any websites that you like and want us to use for inspiration.
  2. Your Local Marketing Specialist will create a brief, describing generally what your website should look like, and send it to our team of designers.
  3. Our website designers will create 3 design options for you to choose from.
  4. You’ll select your favorite mockup, and give us feedback about any change you’d like to see.
  5. Using your favorite design, our designers will create a mockup of your entire homepage in a PDF for you to review.
  6. Once your homepage mockup is complete, we’ll send to you for additional comments or edits.
  7. Our designers will make any changes you request, then send the final version of your homepage design to you for approval.
  8. Once you approve the design, our website developers start building your website.
  9. The design of your homepage will be used on other pages of your website, so that your complete website matches your branding.

Yes. You’ll need to host and maintain your website to keep it online. We have monthly managed website hosting plans starting at $47/month where we take care of everything that you need to keep your website fast, online, and providing a good user experience.

We also offer Local SEO Plans to help you grow your online presence and outrank your competitors. These plans all include managed website hosting and start at $197/month.

Service Pages

You’ll need 1 dedicated page on your website for each service that you want to promote online.

Location Pages

Location pages help you rank on Google in cities that are further away from your primary business address.

Other pages that might help:

  • Blog articles
  • Team profiles
  • Process overview pages

The Core WordPress website establishes a solid foundation for your website that you can easily add to as your business grows. We’ll help you balance your budget, beginning with the most critical pages, then add new pages as your business grows.

A Service Page is a dedicated page on your website that focuses on a specific service you offer.

Having individual pages for your most important services helps Google understand your relevance when people search for those services, increasing your chances of ranking higher in search results.

Each Service Page is designed to:

  • Improve SEO – Target specific keywords related to the service, helping your business appear in relevant searches.
  • Educate Potential Customers – Provide clear details about what the service includes, how it works, and why it matters.
  • Build Trust – Showcase real customer reviews, high-quality photos, and examples of past work to establish credibility.
  • Drive Conversions – Give potential customers the information they need to confidently take the next step—whether it’s contacting you, booking an appointment, or requesting a quote.

You don’t have to add all service pages at once. We recommend starting with your core services—the ones that drive the most business—and expanding as your company grows. Over time, adding more service pages strengthens your website’s authority and helps attract even more customers.

A Location Page is a dedicated page on your website that highlights a specific area your business serves.

While your core WordPress website helps you rank within a certain radius around your business, your visibility in search results decreases the farther you get from your primary location—especially in competitive markets.

Why Location Pages Matter:

  • Expand Your Reach – Helps your business rank in searches from areas beyond your immediate location.
  • Improve Local SEO – Targets location-specific keywords to increase visibility in surrounding cities or neighborhoods.
  • Provide Localized Information – Showcases relevant service details, testimonials, and project examples from within the location.
  • Boost Conversions – Makes it easier for customers in different locations to find, trust, and contact your business.

If you’re just getting started with online marketing, you may not need location pages right away. However, as you grow and want to attract customers from a wider area, adding dedicated pages for key locations can significantly improve your search rankings and lead generation.

If you start with just your Core WordPress website, you’ll still show up on Google when people are searching for businesses in your category. However, you likely won’t show up on Google when people are searching for the individual services that you offer.

For example, a roofer might rank when someone is searching “roofing contractor near me” but would need a page about “Roof Replacement” if they want to rank for the search term “roof replacement near me”

If your budget is tight, you can begin with just your Core WordPress Website, and once you start generating leads, reinvest in your marketing with additional website pages.

Online Directory Listings FAQs

Do I have to pay each year for my directory listings?

Absolutely not! Unlike some companies lke Yext, you’re not “renting” your listings from us. We create your listings and they’re yours to own.

If you need to update your listings in the future for any reason, for example you change your phone number or business description, there may be a small fee for us to manually update each profile.

Yes! All of the listings we create are yours to own. If you ever decide to stop working with us, or have someone else handle your marketing, they’ll be able to access the listings we create.

Yes! Even if you don’t expect your customers to find you on any of these Online Directory Listings, we recommend setting them up. There’s a few reasons why:

Reason #1: Directory listings are an easy & affordable way to strengthen your online presence to show Google you’re well-established.

Reason #2: When someone searches your business name on Google, there will be plenty of results to show in addition to your website, showing potential customers that you’re well-established.

Reason #3: If you don’t claim your profile, there’s a chance someone else may do so fraudulently. There have been many documented examples with people setup online profiles in the name of a business they don’t own, and add their own phone number so potential customers call them, instead of you. If this happens, not only are they stealing your customers, but also damaging your reputation.

Typically, you do not need to actively manage most of the Online Directory Listings that we create.

Websites like Yellowpages only display basic business details, and only need to be updated if your business details change.

For other directory listings such as Yelp & NextDoor, it can be helpful to periodically make posts and add new photos of your work. However, there is no requirement to do so.

If you have limited time and a limited budget, focus on actively managing your Google Business Profile.

If you’re on one of our Local SEO monthly plans, they may include management of some of your Online Directory Listings.

There are some Online Directory Listings that every business should have such as Yelp, Bing Places, and NextDoor. These are platforms where customers might be searching for businesses like yours. They’re also highly valued by Google – meaning when Google sees your business on these websites, it helps build your credibility.

There are also (10) additional directory listings that we create for you. We’ll select these listings based on the industry that you’re in. For example, for a local contractor, we might add you to GuildQuality, Houzz or Angi. If you’re an attorney we might add you to Avvo or FindLaw.

Online data aggregators like Neustar, DataAxle, and Yellowpages are companies that collect, verify, and distribute business information across hundreds of online directories, search engines, mapping services, and apps. These platforms act as central sources for business data, ensuring that information such as your business name, address, phone number (NAP), and services appear accurately across the web.

Why Local Businesses Should Ensure Accuracy

  1. Consistency Boosts Local SEO – Google values accurate and consistent business information across multiple platforms. Mismatched details can lower your search rankings and confuse potential customers.
  2. Wider Online Presence – Data aggregators push your business details to directories, voice search platforms (like Siri and Alexa), GPS systems, and more, helping more customers find you.
  3. Trust & Credibility – Inconsistent information can make a business look unprofessional or unreliable, causing potential customers to hesitate before reaching out.

It is helpful to have reviews on multiple websites. Typically we recommend businesses focus on growing only your Google Business Profile reviews until you have at least 30 reviews.

After that, you can begin to ask customers to leave reviews on other profiles. However, it’s not required.

We also recommend monitoring your reviews on all directories so that you are aware of, and can respond to negative reviews if you get them.

If you already have some of the listings we create setup, we’ll work with you to grant us access so that we can optimize your listing. If your listing is already optimized, we’ll select a replacement directory.

Not all of the listings allow you to create profiles with login credentials. For the sites that do such as Yelp, we’ll provie you with login credentials.

If you need to update your profiles after they’re setup, there may be an additional charge.

Updates are included at no extra cost if your on one of the following monthly marketing plans – the Local SEO Bassic Plan, the Local SEO Premium Plan or the Local SEO Elite Plan.

For all other clients, there is a one time charge of $297 for us to manually update your business listings with new information. A few examples of reasons why you might need to update your listings are if you change your phone number, move your address, or update your business logo.

There are several reasons why we recommend creating your Online Directory Listings. They’re fast and affordable to setup, and require minimum ongoing management. Here are a few benefits:

Benefit #1: Directory listings are an easy & affordable way to strengthen your online presence to show Google you’re well-established.

Benefit #2: When someone searches your business name on Google, there will be plenty of results to show in addition to your website, showing potential customers that you’re well-established.

Benefit #3: These directories can be a direct source of new customers.
